"Music is a spiritual expression of what's in your heart. Music as a way of getting rich is a pretty new thing, and I often wonder if the mega-bucks glitzy atmosphere is making the quality of music suffer. You have to work really hard to get around that and remember why you're in it in the first place: because you have to be. It's like an addiction. You can't go a day without picking up your guitar. To me, the only commercial goals that are really valid are, 'Boy, I wish I didn't have to go to work. I wish I could do this all the time."

What a day!

posted 10:03 AM by Windowsill Wendy

Despite the unfortunate fact that it arrived on a Wednesday, the July 4th holiday was just what the Dr. ordered for me. The day incorporated so many of my favorite things and activities, that I had permagrin all day and all night.

The day started bright and early with a four-mile Liberty Run at Washington Park. That place is so beautiful, and the weather was perfect. I felt like the extra exercise justified the eating/drinking that would take place later in the day.

From the park, I headed home for some quality time by the pool with the Lovely Miss B. A good soak in the sun was just the thing - it was nice to relax my tired legs and catch up on some reading.

After a quick trip to the grocery store and a Banquet Beer run, it was off to our favorite neighborhood backyard for a hot dog and hamburger cookout. Almost everything made me so happy - from the delicious peach pie to the ample Banquet Beer to the (hour? half hour?) session of the Grateful Dead's "Eyes of the World" jam. Talk about permagrin! I couldn't wipe the silly smile off my face. Good food, good tunes and great company - what more does a girl need?

Speaking of what the Dr. ordered...

After about three weeks of pain and soreness in my right knee, even after copious icing/Advil-ing sessions and a two-week break from running, I decided it was finally time to have the damn thing checked out. Doc said I have patellar tendonitis and an inflamed IT band - in his words, the result of "overuse and misuse." The good news is that it's not serious, and I should be able to take care of it by continuing the ice/Advil routine and cutting back from 15 to five miles a week. The bad news is that I have put on almost 10 pounds in the past six months. Thanks a lot, Banquet Beer!

Here's hoping the pain and swelling go down in a couple of weeks. I don't like to slow down! Plus, I have to get rid of that 10 pounds somehow.
