"Music is a spiritual expression of what's in your heart. Music as a way of getting rich is a pretty new thing, and I often wonder if the mega-bucks glitzy atmosphere is making the quality of music suffer. You have to work really hard to get around that and remember why you're in it in the first place: because you have to be. It's like an addiction. You can't go a day without picking up your guitar. To me, the only commercial goals that are really valid are, 'Boy, I wish I didn't have to go to work. I wish I could do this all the time." -Trey Anastasio
"Impose rules to make life simpler. Break them to make life more fun." -Jon Fishman
It seemed like for me, and probably a lot of people I know, this last week with the 4th in the middle of the week made us have 2 mondays and 2 fridays. Weird.
Last weekend I saw Feranti & Spearhead + John Butler Trio at Red Rocks. I really enjoy John Butler, I actually think he should have headlined the show. Feranti put on a better show than others that I have seen in the past. In the past I have been annoyed by his overuse of "How you feelin?!???!!!!!!" but this show it seemed like he said that less. I still think that his lyrics are a little too obvious- ("Fire Fire Fire, Light up your Lighter!" really?) but his message of peace and tolerance is genuine and can't be criticized. He has a lot of energy in his performance and can get the crowd moving and having a good time.
On the 3rd I went up to Boulder for a friend's house party. Had a great time- a house party with 50+ people, a keg, ping pong and a bluegrass band is a great time. I ended up getting a little too drunk to drive back to Denver and found myself passed out in my car parked in front of the house party.
This weekend I am taking it easy- this week coming up I am playing a gig with The Mad Scientists and next weekend am going up to Copper Mountain for Trancegression- I will get to see The Disco Biscuits, Umphrey's McGee, Galactic, Lotus, Zilla, and Greyboy All-Stars. We have a condo and it will be a good time for sure.
