"Music is a spiritual expression of what's in your heart. Music as a way of getting rich is a pretty new thing, and I often wonder if the mega-bucks glitzy atmosphere is making the quality of music suffer. You have to work really hard to get around that and remember why you're in it in the first place: because you have to be. It's like an addiction. You can't go a day without picking up your guitar. To me, the only commercial goals that are really valid are, 'Boy, I wish I didn't have to go to work. I wish I could do this all the time."

Guilty Pleasure

posted 5:07 PM by Anonymous

I must admit that I have a new guilty pleasure for a current television program. Yes, that's right...I love the OC. This is coming from a man who enjoyed watching Dawson's Creek on a weekly basis. Sweet, Sweet Katie Holmes...(SNAP OUT OF IT CHEEZLOG!)... Anway, Dawson's Creek was so 2003. Now I'm all about the OC. The storyline is good thus far and the actresses are hot. What more can one ask for? I understand that not all of you will agree with me which is fine. We all have a guilty pleasure and this one is mine. I will even admit to still enjoying Boy Meets World. This particular show is so bad that it's 100% right.

Please share YOUR guilty pleasure. Is it Tang? Britney Spears? Boner from Growing Pains? Doves? Me? Motley Crue? Spill your little secret.

Checking In... Checking Out

posted 1:12 PM by Windowsill Wendy

Hi Bloggers! It's been a while for me, and I couldn't quite stand to totally disappear without one last post. I'm taking all of my archived posts off of BTG now - too many people (read: COWORKERS) know about the blog and like to talk about it. While I'm not ashamed of anything I've written here, it makes me hella uncomfortable to have everything sort of hanging out there.

On the other hand, my schedule has lightened up significantly, and I miss blogging and checking in on my favorite blog-buddies. I'm seriously considering making a fresh start with my very own, brand new, bright and shiny blog. If you're interested in receiving updates, please e-mail me - windowsill_wendy[at]yahoo.com. I'd love to hear from you!

There is a lot going on...next week I'm skiing in Colorado and will be doing some job hunting. Probably won't update again until the 2nd week of March.

Last week saw Galactic on Thurs night and Super Furry Animals on Wednesday night...both were good enjoyable shows, but nothing really unusual happened. I took some pictures, but, I have been watching too many episodes of Reno 911! on TiVo to mess around with that.

I have my group together for Bonnaroo this summer, and will also be in attendance at the Coachella festival in May. Very much looking forward to my summer adventures.

****Also****
tomorrow night (Tuesday, oh wait, FAT Tuesday), some guy named "jam band neil" will be on Sportsradio 1310 The Ticket. The P-1 Wild Ass Circus will air from 8-10 and broadcast live from Hooters. Hilarity ensues.

As a good friend told me this morning, "Life is what happens when you are making plans for the future." I couldn't agree more...

Snow day on Valentine's day

It was the best v-day ever. EVER. We built snowmen and had snowball fights. The most snow Dallas has had since 1985.

Sometimes I doubt your commitment to Sparkle Motion!

posted 12:10 PM by the joker

This weekend was spent doing a lot of things- going to see a band, watching movies (saw Donnie Darko at midnight at an independent theater- cool stuff!), watching the Grammys…but mostly my mind was elsewhere. A lot of introspective thinking, a lot of spacing out. THC seems to encourage this state, and its even deeper if you have something that you need to think about.

The thing I’m thinking about is my move to Colorado and finishing my MBA. I used to laugh at the people that say they went to Law school and all they figured out is that they don’t want to be a lawyer. I very much feel like all I learned in MBA school is that I don’t want to be an MBA, or at least I don’t want to be a corporate drone businessman. (does anyone, really? Sometimes I wonder.)

The good thing is that I have made some good contacts in Colorado- friends of friends of friends that are willing to help me find work. One, in particular, seems to think that he knows everyone in Colorado and can help me find what I’m looking for.

Problem is, what am I looking for? (cue U2: “I have climbed the highest mountain…I have run though the fields…”)

For him to help me, and this is probably the case for a lot of other people to help me as well, I need an elevator pitch. Something that sums up in 30 seconds or less who I am, what I want, and where I’m going. In a world where it seems like I have always been presented with choices, its kind of intimidating to have to come up with what I want. Sometimes I think I know what will make me happy, but then doubt sets in. I just feel really restless and lacking in focus and direction, and am unsure how to find it.

In other news, I made a mix cd that I am calling “Grooves” that I am obsessed with…It has 13 tracks of funky/jazzy spacy grooves that I love and can’t stop listening to it. Its 75 minutes of space out head bobbin fun.

Watched Dubya on Meet the Press yesterday morning. Bush kept close to his script. I don’t doubt that Saddam is/was a madman, but im still not sure that he had just cause to go to war, and it was an "imminent threat" like he said. Its kind of frustrating for me to watch his interviews- Tim Russert asked a lot of good questions, but bush never really seemed to open up or get much away from saying the same key messages. Sticking to the key messages is a key strategy to any PR campaign, but it doesn’t make me relate to him very well. There were a couple of things that were in there that were pretty funny that we paused and re-wound on TiVo- like when he said we were "on the hunt" for Osama and bobbled his head...I enjoyed the Bush-isms more than anything. “Shadowy terrorist network” is another good quote. But like Garcia says…we aren’t pro war or anti-war, we are just pro love and pro music. I used to hate talking politics, but I am intrigued right now by this political season.

Perhaps the weirdest detail that I thought about the whole Meet the Press interview and I haven’t read or heard anything about was this- Towards the end of the interview, Russert read a not so flattering remark by John Kerry about Bush at Yale. Bush responded by saying he didn’t know Kerry at Yale, yet they were 2 years apart and both in the Skull and Bones club/society/fraternity thing. How could they not have known each other? Small detail, but weird.

Thank god I can take a nap when I get home

posted 2:03 PM by the joker

Its been raining all week and cold, and my mood definitely goes along with the weather- I get feeling kinda tired and not very exciting or creative when its gray outside. I have no idea how you people that live in the Northeast and Midwest get through winter without committing suicide.

Last night I put my shit kickers on and went to see The Yonder Mountain String Band at the Gypsy Tea room. I like about 45 minutes of bluegrass and then everything pretty much is the same to me- I had a good time, and I could definitely feel the energy…but I kept on wanting to groove, but there wasn’t a drum kit to groove to. I won tickets to the show, so the people that I got in for free were buying me drinks all night...then I went home and watched The Apprentice on TiVo...and woke up with a hangover and am a bit tired. But It was another damn good episode with The Donald. You're fired. Love it.

I am trying to make some headway with contacts and setting up some interviews in Denver/Boulder for the first week of March. I have gotten in touch with some people, but its definitely a tough, uphill battle in finding a job and all that. Im trying to stay positive, though, and I think that I will be able to have 5-10 meetings set up when I go up there- either informational interviews or just get to know you networking lunches. In case you are wondering, im looking to Advertising/Sales/Marketing job functions, mostly in the Technology industry in Colorado…drop me a line if you think you can help me out.

So, Pauly sent me some more Phish CD’s, and I have been listening to them all day today. The Piper on 12-29-03 is bad ass- Trey plays some heavy metal riffs there at about 11:50 that take the jam totally over the top. Good stuff. Phish announced a 3-day run in Vegas in April, but I think im going to save my money for a tour following this summer- a trip to Vegas could get very $$$ expensive. Gambling while you are high? Bad idea. In MBA speak, the CPS (cost per show) would be lower on a summer tour.

George W. Bush is rumored to be on Meet The Press this Sunday…should be interesting to see what he has to say. I really think that Tim Russert asks the tough question, and seems to remain unbiased…I’ll be tuning in for sure.

Weekend Wrap-up

posted 1:18 PM by the joker

I will just say this: Janet Jackson clearly wanted some publicity, there is no other reason for all of this stuff about a boob popping out…as the CheezLog pointed out via e-mail: “It's kind of pathetic...for us and her.”

The superbowl party I went to yesterday was great. Lots of food, lots of beer, multiple TVs, and good friends. It was a pretty much drama-free weekend for me, lots of sleeping and taking it easy.

JamBase has awarded me a pair of tickets to see the Yonder Mountain String Band on Thursday night…I am one lucky mofo to win concert tickets. Should be a good time.

I watched the first episode of Survivor All-Stars last night, so now I guess I will add that to the list of programs to TiVo and become addicted to. This, of course, is in addition to The Real World San Diego and The Apprentice.

I watched some interviews with John Kerry and Howard Dean this weekend…I’m really into the presidential race. Please please, whatever you do, inform yourself. There is a lot of crazy shit going on in this world, that’s for sure. I don’t want to have a political blog, so I won’t go into it, but you need to vote, and you need to get informed. ‘Nuff said.
