The brownies I ate Saturday night made for a very interesting evening. There were the sing-alongs with the guitar. There was the fun walk down to the Mobil station at 1am and being able to catch some skinamax through a neighbor's window from the sidewalk. But really, my favorite part was just sitting on the street corner, watching the world go by, and giggling with my 3 friends about the music we could imagine the drivers of passing cars were listening to. I can't remember the last time i had so much fun on a street corner in my neighborhood. "Havin' a good time...Livin' the moontime", indeed.
Is anyone out there a fan of astrology? I am becoming more and more a fan of it. If anyone is into charts, i was born on 3/11/76 in Waco, TX at 7:35 AM. Last weekend I went to a special Scorpionic Zodiac birthday party...everyone wore nametags with their sign and which signs they were compatible with...it was pretty fun. I think the personality trait/compatibility of signs is very interesting in general. I also am amazed that astrology is relatively popular, yet it does not seem to have a central governing body, and also seems to not have any central messages or a main book similar to the Bible or Torah, etc...at least that i am aware of. Its interesting to me that astrology is (supposedly) ancient, yet there doesn't seem to be any major wars fought over it, like the Astrologers aren't bombing anyone in the West Bank...but i digress. Astrology is fun, im looking for my Scorpio. Where are you, Scorpio? Or a Cancer, that would be ok too.

Last night i watched the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show 2003. It was all that I hoped and dreamed that it would be. What and intoxicating show. I dont know what it is about those angel wings...
And I just gotta say, Sting has to be now at the top of the heap of Rock Stars. Must be hard to wake up one morning and look at your calnedar: "Sing at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show...sing a couple of songs and then flirt with all the models backstage."What a life.

I think maybe all the single people in the world need to get together and tell each other the rules. I mean, I know that the girls ive taken on dates lately weren't my soulmates, but I still had a good time with them. I can tell we aren't perfect together, so I am not really hurt by them telling me they aren’t interested. And hey, I’m not stupid, ive let things fizzle out between people that ive been out with by not calling or e-mailing as much as its being done to me now, but it still kinda hurts to be told so bluntly that they "just want to be friends” or "had a good time, you are a good kisser, but there is nothing between us"...after all, no one likes to feel rejected, at any level...i thought I knew before, but now I don’t know what everyone means by "dating" and "friends" and "casually dating" and "serious"...cause all i really want is a girl i can care for and make laugh and snuggle with & kiss on every once in a while...and I’m not sure why it is that’s so hard to find, cause it seems like there are a bunch of girls out there looking for the same thing.
All of this probably sounds like I’m complaining, and maybe I am. I have always been annoyed reading other people’s posts about how their life is hard or sukks or something didn’t work out the way they want it to, wah wah wah. I know things don’t go the way I want them to, and I have a lot of things that are going good. But right now the things that are going good aren’t the things that I seem to think about a lot. As much as I like to stay on the positive, it seems like the few things that aren’t going my way are the ones that I think about all the time. I feel restless in my job, I feel restless with my life in general. Maybe that will eventually be a good thing, that I don’t want to settle for the way things are and I want to work hard to make them better. But for now, at least till I finish my MBA in May 2004, I’m in a holding pattern…and I’m kinda getting really restless waiting around. I feel like I’m in a slump...what else can I say.
Plans are coming together for a post Christmas > New Year’s road trip. On Dec 26 im driving up to Colorado for a few days of skiing and visiting friends up there. Then, I will deathmarch roadtrip across the boring wintry Midwest wasteland to Chicago, where I will see the White Stripes and Flaming Lips perform on New Year’s eve. I am very much looking forward to this trip...here’s to hoping it will bring me some relief and change of attitude I so need.

COMEDY CENTRAL COMES OUT FOR GAY MEN
"STRAIGHT PLAN FOR THE GAY MAN" TO PREMIERE ON FEBRUARY 17, 2004
Four Straight Comedians The "Flab 4" To Give Gay Men Tips To Pass As Straight For A Day
To Aid Them In Achieving Their Dreams
NEW YORK, NY, November 10, 2003. Boys will be boys but thanks to COMEDY CENTRAL's "Straight Plan For The Gay Man," three gay men will achieve their dreams of becoming a blue-collar meatpacker, competitive basketball player and bar hopping, smooth talking babe magnet. COMEDY CENTRAL is in production on three one-hour long episodes that mock and shatter the straight male stereotypes while "embracing" the phenomenon that has swelled over "Queer Eye For The Straight Guy." "Straight Plan For The Gay Man" will air on February 17, 2004.
COMEDY CENTRAL's "Straight Plan for the Gay Man" has four straight comedians, the "Flab 4" -- Curtis Gwynn, Billy Merritt, Kyle Grooms and Rob Riggle - working with a gay man to achieve his small but important dream of pulling the wool over the straight world's eyes for a day. In the three one-hour episodes, viewers will meet three different gay men and learn about that one thing they've always wanted to check off their life's "to do list."
The gay men include: Jonathan, an upscale fashion salesman who's always wanted to better understand the life of a blue collar worker; Roger, a quirky yoga instructor who has always dreamed of competing in a pick up basketball game; and Stephen, a hip singer/dancer with tons of female friends, who's always wondered if he'd be a smooth straight man when it comes to picking up the ladies.
Over the course of each episode, our "Flab 4" comics take their new gay friend under their wing and give him a crash course on the secrets of straight male life -- a life that inevitably requires uglier clothes, a bare kitchen and a healthy dose of false egotism to cover for all personal failings -- of which there are many. At the end of each episode, the straight comics go undercover alongside their gay subject to see if they too can "pass" their tests: with Jonathan, they attempt to get hired at a meatpacking factory; with Roger, they square off in a competitive NYC street ball game; and with Stephen, the guys go for a night of speed dating.
Nick McKinney of Borderline and Lou Wallach from COMEDY CENTRAL are the executive producers for "Straight Plan For The Gay Man."

Saturday night I caught an interesting show at the Double Door in Chicago. The performing band was the Twilight Singers who are fronted by Greg Dulli (former lead singer of the Afghan Whigs). They were in town for two sold out shows in support of their new CD, 'Blackberry Belle.'
The show got off to a rocky start due to the band's tardiness. The showtime printed on the ticket stub was 10 PM and most people arrived early. It was our understanding there would be a DJ spinning before the show, so we grabbed a drink at Pontiac until 10:30 PM. After drinks and smokes we headed over to the show only to be greeted by a
still spinning DJ. To our surprise the band made the crowd wait until after midnight before coming on stage. Needless to say, everyone was pissed! Not only did we have to wait two solid hours in a smoky club, but the DJ was horrible. In between and during songs, the crowd yelled obscenities to both the DJ and the Twilight Singers. At around midnight the crowd broke loose in a chant of "Bullshit!" Once this chant started the band quickly arrived on stage and acted like nothing was wrong.
I will admit the first two songs kicked most of our asses and made us forget our anger towards the band. It was a great show...when they played music. In case you are not familiar with Greg Dulli he likes to hear himself talk. Of the two hour set, Greg wasted a good 30-40 minutes yakking about unimportant, boring bullshit. During their encore an audience member yelled to Greg, "Shut up and play. You're not Jim Morrison." This was by far my favorite quote of the evening. Greg reminds me of Ryan Adams to some extent. Although he's a great musician, he's a complete jackass. It bugs me when a musician's personality falls short of matching his music. Greg loves to sing about loneliness and fallen apart relationships. After seeing him live I don't feel sorry for him. I'm not surprised he's single.
It's true that most of this review was negative, but the music, when played, was excellent. I highly recommend downloading a tune or two from the Twilight Singers. Their sound is reminiscent of the Afghan Whigs' '1969' CD.
Among those in attendance at Saturday's show was none other than, Jimmy Chamberlin, of the Smashing Pumpkins.

This weekend we had a pretty wild time all around. Fri night (Halloween) we went out to a couple of bars in Boston and then back to a party that was close to where John lived- the party had gay guys making out in corners, booze, drugs, and a couple of girls that decided to dance and walk around topless. John is a photographer and his wife works for Harvard...they are 2 of my best friends in the world and it was wonderful to see them. the live in kind of an "artists community" in a building that is a converted warehouse into large "spaces"...so basically I met a bunch of eccentric talented artists all weekend. I guess all the other cool people that live in Boston went up to Salem or to NYC for the weekend, cause it just didnt seem like the town was into Halloween- only about a quarter of the people out were dressed up.
Sat night decided to take a little road trip and got a room at the Westin in downtown Providence (Providence is about an hour from Boston) on Priceline.com for $100! We went out for a really nice dinner- steaks and wine and sushi at a place called "10" in Providence- I highly recommend it...then we decided to really turn it up and went to a couple of strip clubs (with Jeanne, John's wife in tow), got really drunk and looked at boobs all night. After close we had a party back at the hotel till sunrise...
I did take some pictures in Boston- John wore a pink velour J-Lo workout suit and was "Juanita Lopez, J-Lo's estranged cousin...and I just looked flat out scary as a big breasted blonde. I’m having trouble with my home computer and cant upload them to post here, but if someone has some space for me, lemme know and maybe we can work out an .ftp arrangement. But ill warn you, I’m not a pretty woman at all. my scruff with the blonde wig was pretty disgusting, which was the intention...but still nasty nonetheless.
...and these really aren't even the tip of the iceberg of the stories...it was a lot of fun but I’m very exhausted from staying up all night 2 nights.
