"Music is a spiritual expression of what's in your heart. Music as a way of getting rich is a pretty new thing, and I often wonder if the mega-bucks glitzy atmosphere is making the quality of music suffer. You have to work really hard to get around that and remember why you're in it in the first place: because you have to be. It's like an addiction. You can't go a day without picking up your guitar. To me, the only commercial goals that are really valid are, 'Boy, I wish I didn't have to go to work. I wish I could do this all the time."

Review: Live From Bonnaroo 2003

Of course you know that I am going to like this, because it brings flashbacks of dancing and staying up all night and wearing ridiculous costumes. Live From Bonnaroo 2003 is good, but some of my favorite moments aren't included. There just isn't a way to get 20+ artists to have their best moment from the festival on 2 discs, because sometimes that best song from their set lasted 15 or 20 minutes.

I am obsessed with the Mediski Martin and Wood track on here, and I would characterize most of the selections on this disc as "soild". Definitely a great way to expose yourself to a variety of music. Notably absent is Neil Young & Crazy Horse, Particle, and Moe...maybe there will be a Vol.2 or they will be featured on the upcoming DVD.

My hope is that the hipsters that buy this disc for the Polyphonic Spree or the Flaming Lips will take the time to listen to the rest of the disc with an open mind- it really is ok to like it all. I promise.
